Am I a good candidate for Microblading?
Microblading is not recommended for:
-
Anyone who is pregnant or nursing.
-
Anyone who has diabetes, inflammatory skin diseases, skin with broken Capillaries, acne, or epilepsy.
-
Anyone who has had botox within the last 2 months or has taken Accutane within the last year.
-
Anyone who is sick or undergoing Chemotherapy (you must consult with your doctor first).
-
Anyone who has a history of Keloids or Hypertrophic scarring, heart conditions or uncontrolled high blood pressure.
-
Anyone who has keratosis, excessive sebum, oily skin (the oil will cause the hairstrokes to heal with a diffused, softer look), very dry or peeling skin, or moles or Seborrheic dermatitis in the eyebrow area (Microblading will not be done over blemishes, sores or moles around the eyebrow area).
-
Anyone who is not really sure they want the procedure.
Does Microblading hurt?
Pain levels may vary from person to person, however, every effort is taken to ensure that the client is comfortable throughout the whole procedure. A topical numbing cream is used before and during the procedure. Your sensitivity may be greater if you are on your menstrual cycle. For clients that are frequent smokers, the topical numbing cream will likely not last as long (also keep in mind that the pigment will fade sooner if you smoke). For clients who have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia please note that this may affect your sensitivity as well.
How long does Microblading last?
Microblading is considered semi-permanent and will not wash off, however, it will fade over time and may need a touch-up every 1-3 years. The frequency or need for touch-ups depends on the following: lifestyle (exposure to sun & UV), the color used (lighter colors may fade faster), iron deficiency (your body may absorb iron-oxide as a supplement), and if any chemical peels or harsh facial treatments come in contact with the treated area. *Please note that results vary and final results cannot be guaranteed as each skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates. Your skin will be evaluated at the touch-up appointment and any necessary changes will be made. Touch-ups are normal for cosmetic tattoo procedures and are scheduled 6-8 weeks after the initial procedure (touch-ups are free of charge). Furthermore, different colors fade at different rates and without touch-ups or maintenance, colors fade towards their base color. i.e. A warm brown may turn pink two years later if it is not touched up.
As previously mentioned, sun exposure will affect your results. The sun will soften the look of your treatment so once the treated area is healed, be diligent about applying sunscreen.
Every skin type is different; if your skin cells regenerate slower, the pigment may hold longer. If your skin absorbs the pigment slowly, the pigment may hold longer.
Bleeding during the procedure will also affect how long the procedure lasts. Bleeding during the procedure will reduce the amount of pigment that retains. Alcohol and certain medications (i.e. aspirin) act as blood-thinners and you should refrain from consuming them prior to your appointment and immediately after.
How many treatments are needed to achieve desired results?
For microblading, two treatments are typically needed. The first touch-up to be no less than 6-8 weeks from the initial session. In some instances, only one treatment will suffice. Every client has their own preference as far as their desired eyebrow goal. At the touch-up, color retention is assessed and adjustments can be made when necessary. If after the first treatment you would like a more bold/dark look that can be achieved at the touch up.
How will my cosmetic tattoo look in the future?
At your appointment, your skin's undertones will be evaluated and the color will be chosen to ensure the pigment blends well with your skin as well as your existing eyebrow and hair color. The color may fade to different tones depending on your individual lifestyle and iron deficiencies (as previously mentioned). At your touch-up appointment, an assessment will be made of how your body responded to the color. At that time, any alterations or corrections can be done to prevent any further color change. As with all clients, over time, your eyebrows will eventually look softer and more powdered. To keep the microbladed hair strokes looking crisp and good, an additional touch-up appointment is recommended every 1-2 years. *All results vary.
What should I consider for long-term care after my procedure?
Sunscreen should be applied daily to the area after your healing process is complete, as this is necessary to help keep the color true. As with any tattoo, sun and UV exposure will cause the color to soften quicker.
Since the pigments used are iron-oxide based, your body will naturally absorb the mineral irons thus lightening the color over time. A touch-up is recommended every 1-2 years.
If you are planning to get a chemical peel, MRI or any other medical procedure, please inform the technician of your iron-oxide cosmetic tattoo. Careful precautions must be taken to avoid affecting the tattooed area.
If you are planning to have laser treatments, please inform your laser specialist to avoid the pigmented area as the laser may ause the pigment to turn black.
How old do I have to be to get tattooed?
You must be 18 years of age or older to receive a tattoo service.
What are the pigments made of?
The pigments come in a variety of colors specially formulated with iron oxide (ingredient not recommended for those who are nursing or pregnant) and other ingredients that are safe for the skin.
